Koala Mascot Launch

The Townsville Intercultural Centre had the great privilege of launching the koala mascot in celebration of the 25th year of the Townsville Cultural Festival this week. Aboriginal elders, local politicians, community leaders, media and every day Townsville citizens from all religions and backgrounds came together to celebrate the koala mascot launch who is now fondly known as ‘Banjo’. The day saw many lovely and encouraging speeches about the koala and festival alike with an emphasis on the meaning behind the festival, Unity in Diversity and what that means to them and their communities. We are more than excited for this year’s Townsville Cultural Festival which will be held 16th-18th August and encourage anyone who would like to be a part of this incredible festival to contact the Townsville Intercultural Centre to find out more!
